5 Favourite Fun & Free Summertime Things To Do in Vancouver
a lifestyle post
Today I'm sharing my 5 favourite things to do in the city that are both fun and free. This is only the second summer that I've lived in Vancouver and I'm loving every moment of it. However, what I don't love so much is the fact that Vancouver is notorious for being one of the world's most expensive cities to live in. However, I must admit that it really is justified and for a good reason!
Although I love traveling and am constantly wanderlusting for my next trip, I personally live for summers here and enjoy staying put because it's truly a spectacular time to be on the beautiful B.C. west coast at this time. This summer has been so good so far that I feel like it almost makes what seemed like a never ending winter that recently passed worth enduring (key word: ALMOST!!!).
Please scroll down to check out my personal list of fun and free things to do in Vancouver.
► Stroll along the South Granville Art Walk. If you love art, design and fashion, you'll enjoy spending time strolling up and down South Granville street. There are also several cool stores and cute boutiques if you're in the mood to shop or if you're just window shopping, you never know what interesting things you may find. Don't forget to check out the beautiful murals too! This awesome Rainbow Wall featured above is located in the alley way of 6th & Granville. There is also this stunning mural featured below by artist Ola Volo on 14th & Granville. Definitely Instagram worthy murals!
► Watch the Celebration of Light fireworks. Every year, I try my best to make it to one of the firework events in Vancouver. I'm sure many of you have experienced this for yourself, but I wanted to include this on my list as it's definitely a personal favourite of mine! There are only two more nights left in the summer on August 2nd (United Kingdom) and August 5th (Canada). You can find more information on their website.
► Spend a day enjoying the sunshine at Kitsilano Beach. There's nothing that says summertime more to me than spending a day at Kits Beach. This spot is perfect for just chilling out and lounging by the beach. You can also watch the fireworks from here after the sun has set. It's also a romantic date night location (think walks by the beach hehe) or spending the day gathering your friends for a BBQ or picnic. There's beach volleyball, basketball courts, tennis courts, and all sorts of water sport activities if you want to play sports and move your body. It does get crowded here, but everyone is having a good time and in a good mood. After hanging out here, you'll understand why it's such a popular spot.
► Explore the Arbutus Greenway. Go for a walk, run, bike ride or rollerblade ride along this peaceful and pleasant pathway. It runs about 9 km from Milton Street to 1st Avenue. Justin and I spend a day taking our time riding our bikes here which was awesome. It's a beautiful public space and it truly fosters a sense of social interaction as we saw some friendly people playing ping pong along the pathway and inviting others to join in on the fun.
► People and dog watch in Olympic Village (Southeast False Creek). This is my personal favourite neighbourhood in the city. Okay, I know that I'm biased since this is my own neighbourhood. And yes, I am that person in your neighbourhood that obsesses over every cute dog they see and tries to pet them. Speaking of animals, if you're lucky you just may catch the Olympic Village beaver family in action. Just look at how magnificent and adorable these hardworking creatures are!
I hope you found this interesting and helpful. I'd love to hear what some of your favourite things to do in Vancouver are!
may you have the best summer ever!
