Our Wedding Day: The First Look

Now that I have some downtime on vacation to blog, I wanted to share some wedding photos of my first look and my experience during the event.

First and foremost, I have to thank my amazing photographers (also the loveliest husband and wife team) Dmitri & Sandra for capturing every single moment and delivering the most stunning shots. I was also super impressed by how quickly their turnaround was, as they sent us all our finished and edited photos in about 1 month which was also 3 days before Christmas! It was an amazing Christmas gift. There were at least a thousand photos that I received so it did take me some time (and extra memory for my macbook!) to organize and sort through them.

From my perspective, the first look was an important event of my wedding day to me as it would be the first time Justin and I would see each other before our ceremony. I love this new tradition and am so glad we decided to do this, and I highly recommend it to any soon-to-be newlyweds as there are so many benefits to it.

For example, it helped with our tight timeline in terms of getting maximum time for photography. I was also super excited to see him all morning! We were traditional in sleeping in different rooms the night before our wedding, so I just couldn't wait to see him all dappered out in his tux and bowtie.

The main benefit of having a first look was that Justin and I had our own intimate moment to be just alone together and share our emotions with each other in privacy. I liked that it enabled me to feel more calm and combat any nerves as I am really shy having the spotlight on me. Plus, I am a sensitive soul. And there's something about being around water (it's my cancer sign coming through I know) that just draws all emotion out of me. I knew I would feel every single feeling. My intuition was right as I couldn't fight back the tears, so I'm glad I had a moment to recover, touch up my eye makeup and compose myself before walking down the aisle. Doing a first look didn't take away anything for me walking down the aisle, and in fact I felt like it made it more special. I felt more relaxed and at ease and no pressure being watched by everyone as I made my way down the aisle. I was able to focus on Justin and not feel too distracted as I walked towards him with a grin on my face knowing we shared a secret moment before.

The process of coordinating the first look with our photographers was super smooth as well. They were respectful with giving us our space and were pretty much invisible with capturing these precious moments. I loved that both our photographers split up and were able to capture opposite perspectives from Justin and myself.

It's been about 3 months now since our wedding, and looking at these photos now brings me a feeling like I've been zapped right back to this place and time. After so much time and effort spent on planning, our wedding day felt like it went by in a blink! I wished the day would have passed a little slower. Ultimately I'm grateful I have these photos to remind me of all the little moments of joy that make up my treasure chest of memories I get to fall asleep happily to every night.
