My Daily Skincare Routine
a beauty post
Good skin has always been important to me, yet often felt out of reach as I have always struggled with skin issues starting from my teenage years. At my most extreme phase in my early twenties, I had severe and deep acne due to stress and poor health. The worst and most frustrating part was not properly understanding the root of the conditions and not knowing how to properly treat it.
Fast forward to today, my skin condition has improved so much and transformed significantly. I finally feel confident and good in my own skin. I know it's not perfect and my skin still has super sensitive, hormonal and reactive moments. I'm okay with that, as I've learned SO much about what works for my skin. Just by simply paying attention to my skin's needs and knowing how to give it exactly what it needs with the right kind of products - is the key to good skin for me.
One of the best discoveries for me was being introduced to iS Clincal skincare products. My facialist (bless her soul!) is amazing and introduced me to a few powerful products that have helped me to see truly transformative results. Today I'm sharing an in-depth guide into my current skincare routine.
MY SKIN TYPE:
First of all, let me share what my skin type is for context and for you to know whether some products could potentially work for you too! My skin varies with the seasons and environment like everyone else. In the summer, my skin is sensitive and prone to dehydration and can get oily in my forehead and nose area. In the winter, my skin is dry and can get very flakey and red around my nose area. Overall, my concerns are hormonal breakouts and dehydration.
MY SKINCARE ROUTINE:
► Bioderma Sensibio H2O - This has been my go-to makeup remover for the past five years (thanks to my bestie for introducing me to this!) and I can't live without it. My #1 rule is never ever sleep with makeup on and make sure you take it all off at the end of the day. Sensibio H2O is a dermatological micellar water that is gentle and compatible for skin. I've seen other brands develop micellar water as well, but have never tried others as I'm very satisfied using this. I highly recommend this formula as it helps to rebuild the skin's hydrolipidic film by moisturizing it, and protecting it from the environment. Basically, your skin doesn't feel uncomfortably tight as the corneal layer on the surface of your skin doesn't get stripped off.
► iS Clinical Cream Cleanser - I use a nickel size of this and massage it into my skin for a full minute. This cleanser is lightweight, soothing and moisturizing. It's also powerful yet gentle enough for hypersensitive skin. I like that it deep cleans pores without leaving a dry feeling. My skin always feels refreshed and hydrated. The key ingredients are Coconut Oil, Safflower Seed Oil, Glycerin & Squalane.
► Zo Medical Glycogent Exfoliation Accelarator - This is a glycolic and lactic acid complex that helps to effectively exfoliate dead skin cells and increase cell regenaration. I use this 1-2 times a week in the morning after cleansing.
► Tata Harper Hydrating Floral Essence - This is a very lightweight essence full of Hyaluronic Acid that help to boost the skin's natural hydration. I like to add this before my serums as it helps to enhance their performance. It helps to prepare my skin for a lovely cocktail mix of serums.
► iS Clinical Active Serum - This has been a game changer for me. I definitely saw immediate results from this as this product is extremely powerful at combating blemishes. This serum exfoliates the skin, giving you a nice tingly sensation and leaving your skin smooth and soft. The key ingredients are Sugar Cane Extract (source of Glycolic Acid), Bilberry Extract (source of Lactic Acid), White Willow Bark Extract (source of Salicylic Acid), Arbutin & Mushroom Extract.
► iS Clinical Pro-Heal Serum - This is also another powerful serum. It is full of antioxidants and is an incredible anti-ager as it helps to minimize fine lines and wrinkles. It also helps to heal blemishes or scars. The key ingredients are L-Absorbic Acid (stabilized form of Vitamin C), Vitamin E, Retinol (Vitamin A) and Olive Leaf Extract.
► iS Clinical Hydracool Serum - This serum is packed with intensive and penetrating hydration. I use 1-2 drops and a little goes a long way. I find this is especially beneficial for traveling as air travel can be extremely dehydrating. The key ingredients are Centella Asiatica (a powerful perennial plant herb antioxidant), Hyaluronic Acid, Mushroom Extract and Vitamin B5.
► iS Clinical Reparative Moisture Emulsion - This is my morning moisturizer and it's incredibly hydrating and smoothing. I find that it's an amazing prep for my skin before applying makeup and will often use it as a makeup primer.
► SHEALD Recovery Balm - I use this moisturizer in the evening time. In the winter, I use this more often when the weather is harsh and dry as it has a very moisture-rich formula. It helps to calm tight and distressed skin.
At Home Peel
► Zo Medical Invisapeel - I use this 1-3 times in a week, depending on how reactive or hormonal my skin is feeling. I will apply a thin layer of this after cleansing and leave it on overnight. This at-home peel helps is formulated to exfoliate the surface of the epidermis. It also helps improve visible signs of sun damage.
► Origins GinZing Refreshing Eye Cream - This is my go-to eye cream. I think it's good value for a daily eye cream that combats dullness, puffiness and dark circles. One thing I learned is that it's not necessarily about the product, but about the application of the product if you want to see results. I always make sure to massage this eye cream around my eyes so it is completely absorbed and also to facilitate lymphatic drainage.
► Kate Somerville Goat Milk De-Puffing Eye Balm - I love the cooling sensation of this eye balm. It is enriched with goat milk, natural milk proteins and Manuka Honey. It's great for revitalizing tired and puffy eyes. It's also a very travel-friendly product due to its compact size. I particularly like the packaging as I find it's easy and convenient to carry around and apply when you need a pick me up.
► I love a good sheet mask. One tip that I've learned and live by is to always apply a sheet mask immediately after applying your essence or serum to lock in all the moisture and hydration. My favourite sheet masks that can be found at Sephora are Dr Jart+ Brightening Infusion Hydrogel Mask & Dr Jart+ All That Contours Hydrogel Mask. I also like Too Cool for School's Egg Cream Masks when I need a big boost of hydration.
► Lush BB Seaweed Fresh Face Mask - This mask is amazing for when my skin gets super sensitive and needs something calming. The nutrient rich seaweed plus finely ground almonds help to exfoliate and leave your skin super smooth. I like to use this in the morning when I have a big event and need my skin to be in tip top shape.
► Caudalie Grape Water - This is my favourite mist for when I need a skin refresher or boost of hydration. I mostly use this when I travel as a nice pick me up on the plane as my skin gets very dry from air travel.
